Music journalist to be honored in Darien

Noted American music journalist, Stanley Booth, will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, at Darien Waterfront Park in Darien, Ga. The event is part of the New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music Smithsonian exhibit now showing in Darien. A concert by Caroline Aiken will follow the ceremony.

Booth will read  passages from his upcoming book, Blues Dues. He began his music journalism career with articles on Memphis musicians like Furry Lewis and Otis Redding. In fact, Booth witnessed Redding and Steve Cropper writing the famous song Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay at Stax studios on the Friday before Redding's death. He was present for and wrote about the infamous 1969 Rolling Stones concert in Altamont, Calif., at which a concertgoer was murdered by a member of the Hell's Angels motorcycle gang.

In addition to writing books, Booth has also published music articles in Rolling Stone, Esquire, GQ, and Playboy and has appeared in many documentaries.
