"Muslim Journeys" Bookshelf
Hog Hammock Public Library on Sapelo Island is the proud recipient of a Bridging Cultures Bookshelf Award called “Muslim Journeys.” The award is from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association, and the library is using it to honor Bilali Muhammad and to tell his American story.
The "Muslim Journeys" Bookshelf award includes a collection of books, films, and other resources chosen to familiarize the American public with Islam and the cultural heritage of Islamic civilizations around the world.
Hog Hammock Public Library is using the Bookshelf resources to explore our family history and to learn more about the life of Bilali Muhammad of Sapelo Island, the patriarch of many island families.
We have created a Bilali blog, and we're putting together several programs throughout the remainder of the year. (Keep checking our calendar as we'll be adding programs as we go along.)
We feel our "Muslim Journeys" programming works well with our Summer Reading theme for this year -- "Dig into Reading." After all, we are digging up our family tree, so to speak!
We hope you'll be able to participate in some or all of our programming this year. Remember, reservations are required for visitors coming from the mainland. Contact us via e-mail at hoghammock @ gmail.com.
