Cultural Day

Save the Date!

Cultural Day is October 17, 2015. The festival is Sapelo Island's annual celebration of our Gullah-Geechee culture. Events and activities include musical performances, cultural demonstrations, Gullah-Geechee food, arts and crafts vendors and more!

The guest author at the Hog Hammock Public Library booth will be Sapelo's own Gracie Chandler, who also is a library trustee.

Her new novel, Free to Be, is the story of Crecie, an enslaved girl who struggles to embrace freedom when the Union army arrives on the Sea Islands. Crecie must remove the shackles of her mind and find her power in her changing world.
